Holding a Torch for Humanity

One thing that has touched my heart over the years, is the way my teacher Amadon loves people and feels so close to the heart of anybody he meets. He doesn't assume he's different than anyone, so when he talks with you there's no sense of distance or separation, or being on a different page. He always finds something really valuable, unique, and beautiful in the people he meets, he sees their goodness, and he helps people see and be that themselves.
Because his love has touched me so profoundly over the years, I wrote this poem to try to express it. Actually it came in a moment of inspiration after he'd been helping a number of his friends to overcome some problems, and seeing how beautifully he was holding a candle for the hearts of each one of them, I wrote this:

One man who held the torch for humanity
Who remembered for the people
Who they are
Saw that individual spark of light
In the eyes of each child of God
Saw that unique expression
Feeling
And perception
Of the one in front of him
Remembered for him that he’s God’s son
Remembered for her that she’s God’s special one
Just like him
And he saw them unified
Gave his whole heart for their freedom
He drew them in
Took them home
And cradled them forever
He was the ground that never dropped
He was the landing, the bottom, the net
And when
After much care and nurturance by him
They realized that he was this bottom, their strength and stability
And platform beneath their feet
THEN
They saw that he also was the top
The joy, the spark of life Itself
He sparked a boil in their blood
A race in their hearts
A dance in their feet
A glitter in their eyes
And resonated all the passion in their beings
His spark enabled them to move mountains
To have x-ray vision
To see each-other clearly
To work together closely
And over time to love one-another as themselves
As a sibling, as a child, a lover, and a dearest friend
To think before they spoke yet hold back nothing
To cherish the lives they lived together
He inspired all this with his constant love and
Uncompromised dedication to their upliftment and freedom from the short
ropes of bondage
His recognition of them turned their world upside down
and then right side up
Realigned and perfectly balanced.
